The Open Source Geospatial/GIS Use Case

The GIS/Geospatial vertical of the FOSSEE project, IIT Bombay, promotes the usage of Open Source Geospatial/GIS tools in academic institutions and industry and is funded through the National Mission on Education through ICT, Ministry of Education, Government of India.

The Open Source Geospatial/GIS Use Case:

The Open Source GIS/Geospatial Use Case is a unique initiative focusing on motivating large-scale contributions from UGC/AICTE/AIU-recognized institutions and District Collectorate(s) in India, using Geospatial technologies to solve India-specific real-life issues. Adherence to the National Geospatial Policy 2022, and the Indian Space Policy 2023 is a must. The problem statement chosen must be inclined to any one of the Sustainable Development Goals (UNDP-SDG), and the complete work, including the creation of thematic map(s), and associated report, has to be done using Open Source tools. The Open Source Geospatial Use Case has been evolved at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay by Mohamed Kasim Khan M, National Coordinator - FOSSEE GIS, under the guidance of Prof. Pennan Chinnasamy, Co.P.I. & Lead FOSSEE GIS and P.i.C, the Rural Data Research and Analysis (RuDRA) Lab, IIT Bombay.
